When it comes to woodworking shows then the WA Wood Show is an absolute must for all who have an interest in working with timber as a profession or passionate beginner, or home handyman.
For three days only, there will be a huge gathering of all of the leading suppliers and retailers, experts and gurus. Making a return performance this year is the very popular Stan Ceglinski of Billinudgel Timbers, Roger Gifkin of Gifkin Dovetail fame and WA's own Neil Erasmus.
Very excitng news for this year's show is that Richard Vaughan will be participating as a special guest artisan for the first time here in WA. Richard Vaughan established his first workshop as a designer/maker in Sydney in 1983. He first exhibited in 1985 at the Sydney Opera House with the Woodworkers' Association of NSW. He exhibited regularly with the Association and was its chairman from 1991 to 1994. Richard's work has appeared in many magazines and newspapers in Australia and overseas including: Furniture (UK) Fine Woodworking (USA) Vogue Living, Australian Home Beautiful, Australian Geographic, and Australian Country Style. He's been writing regularly for Australian Wood Review since 1996 and is now a contributing editor.
In 2003 Richard fled the increasing frenzy of Sydney and moved to Brisbane where he set up his dream shed and continues his practice as a designer/maker of furniture to commission. He works almost exclusively from the glorious palette of native Australian hardwoods to create pieces unique to the individual client. He also runs classes in fine woodwork in his workshop two nights a week. 2009 is his fourth year as a panelist on the very popular ABC Television show New Inventors. In March - April 2009 Richard will be a guest teacher at Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine. West Australian woodworking enthusiast are fortunate that Richard busy schedule has allowed him to come to Perth and he is very much looking forward to participating in the WA Wood Show.
