Although Kevin Inkster has always had an interest in science, technology and inventing since childhood, he started his career as an engineering surveyor and then moved into the Police Force in Western Australia for 5 years. After travelling, he chose to live an “alternative lifestyle” and moved to small South West Country Town and undertook a variety of employment including: Mechanic, School Bus Driver, Farm Hand, Cafe owner.
He re-discovered his childhood love of woodworking during renovation of the cafe and started making functional contemporary furniture. An engineering background and lack of formal training in woodworking led to the invention of a unique collection of woodworking tools. After winning various art awards for sculpted furniture, Kevin then moved into a career as a furniture craftsman. The tools he had developed for his own woodworking were soon in demand by interested artisans and a change of direction occurred when the decision was made to manufacture his inventions for craftspeople worldwide
Arbortech Pty. Ltd. was founded in 1988 by Kevin & Kristine Inkster to facilitate the development, manufacture and marketing of Kevin's inventions. As the main driving force of the company, Kevin has learnt new skills and gained considerable expertise in successful international commercial negotiations and considers the success of Arbortech as one of the major achievements in his life.
Kevin has extensive experience in Patent and Intellectual Property Protection and was a committee member of ACIP, (Advisory Council on Intellectual Property, an independent body appointed by the government, that advises the Federal Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research on intellectual property matters and the strategic administration of IP Australia) for more than 8 years.
