Helen Cowans

Textile Artist

The colourful, contemporary textile art of Helen Cowans reflects a love of many hand and machine embroidery techniques.  Her work is mainly inspired by science, landscape and eastern cultures and includes a range of items from 3D structures to large wall hangings.  She is an award winning, qualified tutor and has published and exhibited both nationally and internationally.

During the show you will be able to learn from her two presentations each day as part of the show's huge workshop program.

"Silk, Science and Stitch" How I came to have such a passion for textiles, my early work and inspirations, including studies and art relating to Biology.

"From Pugin to Peacocks"  A look at work influenced by the Gothic Revival Art of Pugin along with India and the Islamic world.

As a visitor to this year's show you will see why we believe Helen is a truly inspirational artist whose work and presentations are not to be missed.

Sarah Lawrence
UK

Textiles, Knitting, Beading & Crochet Artist

We are happy to welcome back Sarah Lawrence as a special guests for this year's show.  Sarah is a well-established contemporary textile artist based in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Sarah studied for the City & Guilds in Creative Embroidery, gaining distinctions for both Parts I and II and she has applied and adapted all she learnt in these courses to produce her unique art works that are so inspiring.

She combines her innovative approach to felt-making with embroidery, beadwork, knitting and gilding to produce rich, textured pieces that are exhibited worldwide.

Sarah will be bringing with her all the fantastic pieces that featured in her recently release book "Wild Woman ~ Stitched Art Brooches" along with some fantastic new pieces she has been working on especially for our show.  Sarah is very happy to share her knowledge and techniques so don't miss this opportunity to talk with her during the show.

Beth & Trevor Reid

Beth and Trevor are members of the Canberra based textile group tACTile whose members include Jenny Bowker, Dianne Firth, Helen Grey, Beth Miller and Beth and Trevor Reid.  We are fortunate to have not one, but two members from this very talented and experienced group in Perth for this year's show.  They are bringing with them another wonderful collection of quilts from the tACTile group known as the "Eyeline Exhibition" and look forward to sharing these with visitors to the show.

In their work Beth and Trevor like to draw on unique Australian images and colours and are willing to push the boundaries and explore the use of non traditional material, methods, images, and colours.  They make quilts that are a little bit different, sometimes together, sometime individually. They have exhibited nationally and internationally and have quilts in private collections in Australia, America and Europe.

Trevor has completed a Bachelor of Arts (Visual) with Honours, majoring in textiles at Canberra School of Art and now and works full time at the National Museum of Australia.  Beth works full time with an Australian Federal Government Department.  These truly creative people may be able to share with you their secret of how to hold down a full time job and still have the ability to produce such amazing works of art.

Just a tease of the stunning works from the Eyeline Exhibition
